Branson Law Enforcement Recognition Week to be Sponsored by Summer Winds

Tuesday, May 17, 2016

With everything first responders and public service members do for the community, it is essential we make them feel appreciated. That is why Summer Winds Resort Services will be a proud sponsor of the annual Law Enforcement Recognition Week taking place in the Branson area June 11 through 18.

Active and retired law enforcement personnel and their families will be invited to the Branson area for this weeklong event filled with different activities each day. According to its website, the purpose of Law Enforcement Recognition Week is to pay tribute and honor those dedicated to serving and protecting the public. Proceeds from the week’s events will go towards future law enforcement recognition weeks.

“Summer Winds is extremely proud to be a sponsor of Law Enforcement Recognition Week,” Patrick Joyce, president of Summer Winds Resort Services, said. “The events throughout the week will be a great way to show appreciation for law enforcement officials and we’re happy to be a part of it.”

The first event of the week will be a Poker Run taking place in different locations from Rogers, AR to Kimberling City, MO. For $10 a hand, participants will start off in Rogers and draw one card at random from a deck. They will then make stops and draw cards in Garfield, Eureka Springs and Oakgrove, AR before finishing up in Kimberling City, and the best poker hand at the end of the run wins. A portion of the proceeds from this event will go to Hunting for Heroes, a nonprofit organization that specializes in taking disabled law enforcement on hunting trips.

The next day will feature church services and an ice cream social at Sanctuary of Hope. June 13 will have the “Law on the Links” golf tournament at Ledgestone Golf Course for active and retired law enforcement. There will also be a few spots left open for non-law enforcement participants.

The next event held will be the Honor Guard Competition on June 14 at the Branson Landing Fountains. Honor Guard teams will compete against each other, being judged on their team inspection, posting of the colors and exhibition phase. The shooting competition will be held the next day in Walnut Shade at Ozark Shooters. The participants will go through five rounds of different shooting scenarios, including moving targets from various distances, a hostage taker situation and a body armor drill.

The events on June 16 will include a law enforcement officer’s spouse luncheon along with a book signing at Shrine of the Holy Spirit in Branson. Chris DiGiuseppi and Michael T. Force will be present to sign their best-selling trilogy books "The Light Bringer." Another popular author, Sheriff J.B. Smith, will take part in Law Enforcement Recognition week as well by being the keynote speaker for the banquet at the Radisson Hotel Ballroom on June 17. Smith has been continuously elected sheriff of Smith County in East Texas since 1976 and is a humorist speaker and licensed forensic hypnotist. He has made television appearances on CBS’s “The Early Show” and NBC’s “Today with Matt Lauer.”

Branson’s Law Enforcement Recognition Week will come to a close on June 18 with the Heart of the Ozarks Police Collector’s Show and the third annual Motorcycle Rodeo Competition. The second annual Heart of the Ozarks Police Collector’s Show will take place at the Radisson Hotel Banquet Room and feature an antique police car show and collections of assorted law enforcement badges and patches.

The public is invited to attend one of Southwest Missouri’s largest motorcycle safety skills competitions taking place between Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Theater and the Ramada Inn. The competition features an obstacle course designed to challenge stress management while operating a motorcycle through breaking, turning and accelerating in confined spaces.

From motorcycles and golf to honor guards and target shooting, Branson’s Law Enforcement Recognition Week is a great tribute to those in uniform during the month of June. With all the excitement of live shows and attractions throughout town, Summer Winds Resort Services is honored to help take time out of the summer to recognize law enforcement officials for their daily sacrifice and dedication.
